Made From Dust (Part 3) : No Atheists Aboard Flight 93

The burden of proof is not upon God to prove Himself, as the atheist often challenges. Nonetheless, God has given every proof needed. Psalm 19 says that the “heavens declare the glory of God”. Romans 1 says that “the invisible attributes of God are clearly seen through the things that have been made so that they are all without excuse”.

If a child came to his father and said, “Daddy I don’t believe in you. Prove that you exist!” His father would smile and say, “Son, the fact that you are talking to me is enough.” The fact that the son actually exists is an irrefutable evidence that the father does exist.

No one can disprove the supernatural. Unless someone were to have exhaustive knowledge of the entire cosmos and were to have searched every square inch of creation and found no God, no one can say there is no God. A universal negative cannot be proven. The supernatural is God’s realm. That is where God does business. Furthermore, I highly doubt there were any atheists aboard Flight 93. One of the biggest problems with denying God is explaining death. How does the unbeliever account for death outside of the biblical worldview? Death does not make sense in the evolutionary worldview of the survival of the fittest. Death does make sense within the biblical worldview of sin and the fall from grace.

Why was what happened during 9/11 and Flight 93 so terrible and tragic? I mention Flight 93 specifically because there were 40 passengers on board, that-prior to crashing, had learned through various phone calls from the back of the plane that there were other planes that had been hijacked and had flown into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. The passengers knew they were going to die. Where was Darwin’s theory of evolution to save them? All of them knew they were going to meet their Creator. I hope many of them called on this Creator and Savior to forgive their sins and did trust Him as Lord and Savior in their final moments.
Death makes no sense in the atheist worldview. Atheism demeans life and takes value out of the very meaning of life. To the point where even death makes no sense. We have to keep in mind that the atheist’s worldview is one that does not include God. And since the atheist denies God then human beings cannot be specially created in God’s image and given purpose by God. God says love Him and love your neighbor as yourself. This is man’s meaning and purpose. But atheism takes God out of the scenario and still wants to have a purpose and a reason outside of himself to love others and to do good in the world. But an evolutionary scheme does not include intelligent purpose or intelligent design. Macroevolution is based upon pure accident or chance. There is no design or rhythm in evolution because there is no all powerful, all knowing, ever present and personal loving God in evolution. If there were no God then the passengers on Flight 93 had nothing to be worried about. They were going to die and their evolutionary clock would simply end. No need to cry for them or pray for them. In fact, if evolution is true then their entire life that they lived on the earth meant absolutely nothing and their fate on Flight 93 was not tragic at all-it was only evolution doing its thing. Why did many of the passengers call home during the last 28 minutes of that flight to tell their families they loved them-if there is no God and no purpose in life? Atheism is reduced to foolishness as soon as the atheist says, “Life has no meaning.” I don’t mean to sound so coarse, but when all is said and done, God has not left men with an excuse.

In the biblical view God has declared, “Live!” And even though one should die, Jesus promised  “though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25,26) . Death is not the end for the Christian, but is the beginning. Only God can create life twice-once in the garden of Eden, and then again after death. But in the in-between God has ordained that men and women may be born again. This is the spiritual regeneration that God brings to spiritually dead human beings that changes them from dead in sin to alive in Christ.

In actuality, God creates life three times! At birth. At rebirth. After death and at resurrection.

And when you think about this concept, which is easier? That God created man from dirt or to say that God brought man back to life? Both are simple for the all powerful One. Nothing is too difficult for God. For the believing passengers on Flight 93 that knew they would die that day also knew with even more certainty that they would surely live that day! “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43) is the promise Jesus gives to those who believe!

In the next blog I will explore God’s placement and purpose of man on earth.

Gospel Change Equals World Change

There is a lot going on in 2024 around the world. I get it. There are wars and earthquakes and on top of it all America has an election this year!
We know that tempers flare and everyone gets uptight in election years. Everyone has a candidate that they think will make the world a better place.

Let me cut to the chase-only God can change human hearts from dead in sin to alive in Christ. The right candidate will not change one human heart to alive in Christ. The right piece of legislation will not cause murders and robberies to cease. The right amount of donations will not alter the course of wayward humanity.

The Gospel is the good news for a reason. It saves men from sin and it changes men and women’s hearts from lost in sin to found in Christ! It is the good news that saves and the good news that sanctifies.

The Gospel does not promise to right all the wrongs in this world right now. Jesus will do this when He returns in His Second Coming in glory. The Gospel makes men right before God and makes men ready for Jesus when He does come. Are you right with God through the shed blood of Jesus? Have you trusted in Christ and that He died for you, was buried and rose again? If so, then have you told someone else about this glorious Jesus? What are you waiting for? And have you discipled your children in Jesus and to know all about Jesus? What are you waiting for? And have you discipled a friend in Jesus to know Jesus more and to make Jesus known to others? Well, what are you waiting for? Have you prayed God would change the hearts of your family members and friends that they too may know Jesus and Him crucified?
I’m sure we all have some work to do. Let’s get to it.

Let me encourage you not to fiddle around during an election year with political aspirations of changing the country and world. Let me encourage you to pour out your heart to Jesus and ask that He change the hearts of men and women, one at a time, and that we would be salt and light in this world of darkness as the result of God’s change of men. The great commission is indeed Great! God has chosen you and I for this very purpose and for such a time as this! Go tell the world! Go make disciples!

”The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation, for everyone who believes, the Jew first and also the Greek” (Romans 1:16)
