Acts 1:1

“In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach,”

The first book was the Gospel of Luke. In many respects, Acts can be thought of as a Luke part 2. The author is the same: Luke, who is also a traveling companion of the Apostle Paul. Luke was an eyewitness to an eyewitness and never walked with Jesus personally. Theophilus was a friend of the Christian community and many scholars would deem wealthy and of high position of notoriety. Perhaps he was a public official of some sort. It appeared that he provided financial support to Luke and to the work of the ministry.

Luke dealt with the primary teachings of Jesus and recorded many of His miracles in the Gospel of Luke. Thus, Luke begins this book of Acts with this introduction
